STARS MOUD Clinic Research Exchange:
Q&A with Dr. Mathis and Dr. Brooks

What is the purpose of the STARS MOUD Clinic Research Exchange?
  • The Studies to Advance Recovery Supports (STARS) MOUD Clinic Research Exchange, or the “Exchange”, is a new practice-based research network. Its purpose is to advance research on behavioral interventions and other support services that can facilitate treatment and recovery among individuals with opioid use disorder across Central Appalachia. The Exchange is designed to foster a variety of research efforts, ranging from testing innovative interventions to building research infrastructure for future studies.

What is an MOUD Clinic and how are such clinics involved in the recovery ecosystem?
  • We define an MOUD clinic relatively broadly for purposes of the Exchange. It can refer to any clinic that provides medications for opioid use disorder/medication-assisted treatment, including opioid treatment programs and office-based opioid treatment programs. These clinics are an integral part of the recovery ecosystem in our region, providing access to critical treatment services for individuals with opioid use disorder.

What are benefits to the clinics and to STARS researchers?
  • Joining the Exchange can have benefits for both clinics and researchers! Members will have the opportunity to collaborate with scientists, clinicians, and community leaders who are all striving to advance care for opioid use disorder. They will also have access to free online trainings, resources related to peer recovery support services, a data consultation hub, and more.

How can I get involved?
  • We are actively recruiting MOUD clinics to join the Exchange! We encourage you to visit our website below to learn more about the Exchange and how you can join.
